At EvergreenHealth Foundation, we recognize when your local hospital is strong, so is your community.
By investing in our future, EvergreenHealth Foundation is fulfilling a community promise: Your family won’t need to travel too far, wait too long or question whether your community-owned hospital can meet your health care needs. But we need you to bring our mission to life.
EvergreenHealth has grown from a one-building general hospital into a Healthgrades Top 50 Hospital that cares for more than one million patients throughout the region. This milestone wasn’t achieved alone. As a public hospital district, EvergreenHealth is supported by and accountable to the community it serves, and hospital leaders make decisions based on local care needs and community priorities. Local control, clinical excellence and patient-centered care—that’s the EvergreenHealth promise. But there is no mission without a margin. Transforming health care takes community partnership.
Our community showed their trust in EvergreenHealth when voters in the public hospital district approved an increase to the property tax rate that supports EvergreenHealth. The levy lid lift in 2025 gives our hospital the resources to continue investing in valued community programs and priority health services, such as behavioral health care, clinical education, palliative care and more. This vote was essential to the future of community care at EvergreenHealth, but the hospital requires even greater resources to grow its capacity and deliver the world-class care our community values and has come to expect.
At EvergreenHealth Foundation, we see how philanthropy has elevated our hospital from a beloved local asset to a Healthgrades Top 50 Hospital for the past six years. Philanthropy from grateful patients and community partners has helped the hospital acquire enhanced technology, support continuing education opportunities for clinicians and invest in excellence throughout the hospital. As a not-for-profit hospital, EvergreenHealth needs donor support to continue delivering world-class care in a community hospital setting.
EvergreenHealth relies on philanthropy to fulfill a bold vision: A locally owned hospital system that delivers world-class care with a compassionate touch in a welcoming space that is close to home.
The partnership between the community and EvergreenHealth Foundation ensures that our hospital has the resources it needs to continue delivering superior patient outcomes. We do this work because we see how philanthropy drives innovation, quality and excellence in local health care. The lives saved at EvergreenHealth and the hospital’s commitment to clinical excellence shows the impacts of your generosity.
The power of philanthropy is clear for patients like Tom. In July 2024, Tom experienced a serious stroke which could have ended his life or left him with limited speech and mobility.
In stroke care, every second counts. Tom was rushed by ambulance from his home in nearby Woodinville to the Kirkland hospital. The expert neurosurgery team at the comprehensive Stroke Care Center at EvergreenHealth acted quickly, using the donor-supported stroke biplane to find and remove the blood clot that was causing his stroke. A few hours after surgery, Tom woke up. He was fully recovered.
The exceptional care team at EvergreenHealth saved Tom’s life. Our community did too.
In 2018, local donors supported the purchase of the biplane, a neuroimaging and surgical device that revolutionized stroke care at EvergreenHealth. A few years after that, the EvergreenHealth Neurosciences Institute became a certified comprehensive stroke center; meaning ENI meets the highest national standard for stroke care.
Philanthropy continues to support excellence in neurology at EvergreenHealth. Donor support ensures stroke care protocols at the hospital stay evidence-based and up to date and helps providers pursue continuing education in the latest in neuroscience research and practices.
"When I think about EvergreenHealth, I am indebted. I feel like you didn’t just see me as a patient, you saw a man with a lifetime of plans."
– Tom, EvergreenHealth patient
In an emergency, a patient needs to get medical care, quickly. When you get to the hospital, you want world-class care. The closer that care is to home, the better for everyone. For Tom, having EvergreenHealth nearby made all the difference.
“Thank you, EvergreenHealth,” Tom said. “You gave me back my future.”

Donor support for the EvergreenHealth Foundation is essential to keeping EvergreenHealth independent and community owned. At a time when many hospital systems have struggled economically, EvergreenHealth has stayed resilient and continues to operate as an independent hospital system that is accountable to this community.
“When minutes matter, you want high-quality clinical care as nearby as possible”
– Karlyn Huddy, MD, EvergreenHealth Cardiologist
“EvergreenHealth gave me confidence in my own heartbeat again"
– Pat Erwen, EvergreenHealth Patient

One of the greatest powers of philanthropy is the potential for making transformative impact. EvergreenHealth Foundation frequently works with donors to bring cutting-edge technology and modern equipment to our hospital. Access to these contemporary tools allows the renowned specialists at our hospital to fully leverage their skillset. Enhanced technology also limits the need for patients to travel outside the system for specialty imaging or procedures, which limits barriers to care and increases access.

Hospice care is a unique system of care focused on the patient’s comfort at end-of-life. Our community has placed value on access to dignified, end-of-life care for those who need it, a promise sustained by philanthropy.
Hospice is a key area of support for EvergreenHealth Foundation. A gift from Irene Wockner in remembrance of her late husband, Gene, established the Hospice Care Center bearing their name—the only freestanding, inpatient hospice care center in King and Snohomish counties. Philanthropy funds important aspects of hospice care not traditionally covered by insurance, such as grief and bereavement services, social work and financial assistance. Donor support helps EvergreenHealth provide free grief and bereavement to anyone who has experienced a loss in the past 13 months. In the past six months, more than 8,000 people have used our services.
“We did this the way he wanted, and I will have that for the rest of my life. EvergreenHealth Hospice Care helped me have that."
– Lisa Reddick, whose husband and mother were patients at EvergreenHealth Hospice Care

EvergreenHealth has been awarded for exceptional patient care, service and safety by various independent health care evaluators. Most notably, since 2021-26, leading independent hospital reviewer Healthgrades ranked EvergreenHealth among the top 1% of hospital systems nationwide for superior patient outcomes. EvergreenHealth’s specialty care service lines received similar recognition for clinical excellence.
At EvergreenHealth Foundation, we are committed to investing in the tools, technology and training necessary for our hospital to pursue the highest national standard of care. EvergreenHealth’s recognition for clinical excellence, the provider-led leadership team and commitment to building a positive workplace culture motivate some of the best and brightest minds in medicine to join our hospital. We see how clinical excellence and philanthropy go together at EvergreenHealth.

At EvergreenHealth Foundation, we are working toward a future where no patient in our community needs to travel far for world-class health care, because the best possible care is here at EvergreenHealth. Our patient population is growing as more families move to the suburbs in East King and South Snohomish counties. More EvergreenHealth patients will create greater demand for specialty care, which requires more procedural space and more doctors, nurses and providers. Philanthropy will be essential to helping EvergreenHealth invest in the technology, equipment and community resources necessary for building an enduring legacy of care. Partner with us and discover what’s to come.
