For more than 30 years, EvergreenHealth Hospice Care has provided dignified, end-of-life care for local families, offering in-residence and inpatient hospice care services. The expert providers and highly trained volunteers at EvergreenHealth Hospice Care are known for embracing patients and their families with a model of care that prioritizes comfort, quality of life and honors family values. At EvergreenHealth, the hospice care team works in partnership with familial caregivers, offering 24/7 support and 13 months of follow-up for families after the death of a loved one.
Philanthropy sustains hospice care at EvergreenHealth
EvergreenHealth provides hospice care to all local families, regardless of their ability to pay, because of a community commitment to dignified end-of-life care for all. In the 1980s, philanthropist Irene Wockner gave a generous donation in honor of her late husband, Gene, to establish the Wockner Hospice Care Center at EvergreenHealth. While other hospital systems have been forced to close hospice care programs due to the high cost of service, local philanthropy sustains end-of-life-care at EvergreenHealth, giving every family the opportunity for meaningful goodbyes.

Community support has helped EvergreenHealth expand access to outpatient behavioral health care—filling a major health system gap and supporting patients before they are in crisis.
In July 2023, EvergreenHealth launched its first embedded behavioral health clinic at the EvergreenHealth Primary Care Center in Canyon Park and a second embedded clinic in Kenmore with plans for expansion throughout the hospital system. By integrating behavioral health with primary care, patients get prompt follow-up care at EvergreenHealth, limiting the need for external referrals and long wait times.
The impact is clear: In 2025 EvergreenHealth provided therapy to 444 patients and psychiatry services to 468 patients at the Canyon Park and Kenmore clinics with more than 4,100 follow-up visits. In 2024, behavioral health specialists cared for 366 patients at the clinics.
The program has been so impactful that EvergreenHealth plans to add a third embedded behavioral health clinic at the Totem Lake Primary Care Center, strengthening access to behavioral health care for our community.

As a community-owned hospital, EvergreenHealth has a duty to provide compassionate and comprehensive care for patients in our community. The strength of the hospital’s forensic nursing program, which cares for patients that are victims of sexual assault and abuse, is a testament to this promise.
Victims of sexual assault or abuse can come to the EvergreenHealth emergency departments in Kirkland and Redmond for a comprehensive exam and evaluation from the hospital’s forensic nursing team. EvergreenHealth’s sexual assault nurse examiners are registered nurses who are specially trained to provide clinical care and support to patients. Forensic nurses also collect important forensic documentation, photos and evidence necessary for prosecuting these crimes.
