The generosity of grateful patients has elevated the quality and scope of oncology care at EvergreenHealth. The landmark moment came in 2011, when the comprehensive EvergreenHealth Halvorson Cancer Care Center was established by a transformative gift from the late Elling Halvorson and his wife, Barbara. It’s a legacy that Elling and Barbara’s children and grandchildren have continued through their involvement with EvergreenHealth. This gift, coupled with community support for cancer care at EvergreenHealth, set the stage for a clinical partnership between our hospital and the renowned Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle—bringing some of the best minds in oncology care and research east of Lake Washington.
EvergreenHealth provides radiation oncology, surgical services and social support through the Halvorson Cancer Care Center, with medical oncology and infusion services provided by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.

The EvergreenHealth Neuroscience Institute (ENI) brings advanced practitioners in neurology, neurosurgery and neuropsychology together with clinical support services to help patients navigate a neurological diagnosis.
Philanthropy helped launch critical neurological care programs at EvergreenHealth, including centers of excellence for Parkinson’s care, multiple sclerosis and stroke care. Donor support has gone toward modern technology and equipment that helps our providers practice their best medicine.

In 2022, EvergreenHealth became a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center meaning the hospital meets the highest national standards in stroke care. The ENI is one of four hospitals in the Puget Sound with this designation, and the only one that serves patients in East King and South Snohomish counties. In 2023, the ENI was named the #1 Stroke Care Center in Washington by independent evaluator, Healthgrades.
Our donors paved the way for EvergreenHealth’s stroke program. Nearly 20 years ago, EvergreenHealth patient and donor David Keyes contributed the seed money to stand up the stroke care program. Investments in stroke care continued, and philanthropy supported the purchase of an interventional biplane suite in 2018 that brought some of the best minds in neurosurgery to EvergreenHealth—saving countless patients from death and disability along the way.

Named in honor of a founding member of the EvergreenHealth Foundation and established with community support, the EvergreenHealth Phil and Katie Carter Heart Care Clinic provides top-of-the-line diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services for heart disease and heart attack.
Since 2011, the hospital has been recognized as a national leader in heart care by independent evaluator, Healthgrades, but EvergreenHealth cardiologists see the potential for more.
The second leading cause of death overall in King County is heart disease making cardiac care a top priority for this community. EvergreenHealth is making capital improvements to cardiology over the next two years to meet community needs and improve access for patients. The goal is to make EvergreenHealth the preferred destination for heart care. Philanthropy can support this effort and allow for even more significant growth and access.

For generations, EvergreenHealth has been a national leader in women’s and children’s health care by focusing on the needs of local families. In 1996, EvergreenHealth was the first hospital in the United States to be recognized by UNICEF and the World Health Organization as a Baby-Friendly Hospital, the gold standard of maternity care. The hospital has maintained this designation for more than 25 years.
