EvergreenHealth Foundation | History

EvergreenHealth Foundation has supported the greatest needs of EvergreenHealth Medical Center in Kirkland since our inception in 1991. The generosity of grateful patients and valued community partners has helped EvergreenHealth grow from a one-building general hospital into a Healthgrades Top 50 Hospital for Clinical Excellence—a place where exceptional patient care and community health care needs are the top priority.

EvergreenHealth Foundation is established

EvergreenHealth Foundation was initially created to benefit hospice care services at EvergreenHealth. Hospice care is reimbursed lower than other services and is expensive to deliver, making philanthropy a vital resource for maintaining access to end-of-life care.

Evergreen Gala guests raise $1.4 million for stroke biplane

EvergreenHealth Neurosciences Institute elevated stroke care thanks to the generosity of Evergreen Gala guests, who raised $1.4 million for a stroke biplane at the fundraiser. The stroke biplane is an advanced imaging tool for neurosurgery and enables neurosurgeons to remove or dissolve blood clots, treat aneurysms and more. This investment led to excellence in neuroscience care. In 2022, EvergreenHealth was certified as a comprehensive stroke center, the highest national standard for stroke care.

Community comes together to support EvergreenHealth frontline staff

EvergreenHealth was the first hospital in the U.S. to respond to the first community outbreak of COVID-19, a deadly disease caused by the novel coronavirus. While quarantine requirements and social distancing brought the world to a standstill, health care workers and support staff at EvergreenHealth were working overtime to try to contain the first community outbreak of the novel coronavirus. EvergreenHealth’s emergency preparedness and nimble response put our community-owned hospital on the world map as a leader in pandemic response.

Our community came together in support of the frontline workers at EvergreenHealth in Kirkland. Businesses, residents and community groups donated meals, gifts and discounts in support of our hospital’s frontline workers. EvergreenHealth Foundation stepped in to steward many of these donations including distributing more than 25,000 meals to keep our staff nourished.

Enhanced linear accelerators transform cancer care

The linear accelerator is a revolutionary device that transformed radiation oncology for patients, allowing for more precise treatment with fewer side effects. With the support of friends of EvergreenHealth and guests of the 2022 Evergreen Gala, the hospital upgraded the existing linear accelerator for radiation oncology and purchased a second device for the Halvorson Cancer Care Center.

Friends of EvergreenHealth upgrade MRI technology

For years, EvergreenHealth had one fMRI machine with limited capabilities, which required many patients to be referred outside the hospital system for imaging services. Grateful patients and philanthropic organizations came together to help EvergreenHealth acquire a new, 1.5T MRI machine and enhanced 3T MRI, investments that benefit virtually every specialty care provider at the hospital.
